November 5th, 2010 by Mat Dolphin

Hellovon is the name of the London based illustration studio run by Von. Since 2006, Von has been churning out distinctive, beautiful illustrations for a great client list including Nike, Liberty, Glenfiddich, Ministry of Sound and Habitat. His appeared in a number of publications including Creative Review, Dazed and Confused, Rolling Stone and Playboy.

He was kind enough to answer our Ten Questions.

1. How do you describe what you do?
80% analogue, 20% digital

2. What made you want to do what you do?
I’ve never wanted to do anything else.

3. How would you describe your workplace?
A work in progress

4. What is your favourite colour?

5. Who is your favourite artist or writer?
There’s lots but one of each would be Ron Mueck and Kurt Vonnegut

6. What was your previous job?
Among other things, an ice-cream man.

7. Do you work within a team? If so, how many people do you work with?
It’s a one man team.

8. Do you listen to music whilst working? If so, what do you listen to?
Constantly. It varies, usually if I’m working on large drawing or canvas for an exhibition I will have one album on repeat until it’s complete. A lot of work has been done to “In Rainbows.” This morning is being eased in with some Sparklehorse.

9. Who inspires you to do what you’re doing?
In the grand scheme of things, my parents. Right now, after visiting OFFSET conference in Dublin at the weekend, I was totally blown away by George Lois. Just incredible in both his body or work and as a speaker.

10. Which advice has helped you the most?

Don’t do that.

You can check out more his work here , follow the studio on Twitter here and read his blog here to find out what he’s been up to and what tunes they’ve been in the studio.

The studio has also recently released a limited edition box-set of animal prints. The piece can be purchased in Hellovon’s online shop or, if you’re feeling lucky, Creative Review are giving one away.

Big thanks to Von for answering and you guys for reading. As ever, get in touch if you have any creative goodness to share.
